Meta announced Tuesday that it is rolling out features that will allow Messenger users to create shared albums within chats, send photos in high resolution, and share large files up to 100MB. With these new features, Messenger is targeting people who tend to create shared albums and share HD images through services like Google Drive.
Previously, users could only see a list of photos shared in a particular Messenger chat, without being able to group or organize them. To organize photos from your recent spring break or your grandma's girlfriend's 80th birthday celebration, users can now create photo and video albums in the Group Hers chat. To create an album in a group chat, you need to select multiple photos from the chat composer and tap Create Album. You can also create an album by long-pressing a photo while chatting. If you want to add the photo to an existing album, tap the Add to Album option.
Everyone in the chat can view, add, delete, and download photos and videos in the album. You can find your album by tapping the “Media” button in the chat.
The feature is not available on Meta's other messaging services, WhatsApp or Instagram DMs, so the launch of shared albums will be a welcome addition for users.
As for the new HD photo sharing feature, users can now toggle a new “HD” option after selecting an image from the chat composer. You can tap additional photos to send multiple photos in HD. The release of this new feature follows Meta's September 2023 launch of support for HD photos on his WhatsApp.
Additionally, Messenger now allows users to send Word, PDF, Excel, and zip files directly in chat, providing an alternative to email for sending large files.Users can chat[+]You can do this by tapping a button and selecting a file on your device.
Also new today is the launch of an option for users to connect with other users by scanning a QR code, eliminating the need to enter someone's name or phone number to start a chat on the app.
The new feature is rolling out to all Messenger users on mobile.
