The app becomes even more useful for people who use WhatsApp like an inbox. WhatsApp on Tuesday announced several new chat filters for the app that allow you to easily access certain types of messages: All, Unread, and Groups.
The “All” filter is selected by default, which displays an unfiltered version of your inbox. The “Unread” filter helps you see messages you haven't seen yet. It also helps you zero out your inbox and get rid of those annoying unread chat indicators.
Notably, WhatsApp already had a way to see unread messages through filters in the search bar. However, a new filter bubble at the top of the chat screen now makes this option easily available.
According to Meta, the “Groups” filter is one of the most popular features for quickly scrolling through all group chats. This filter also shows conversations within subgroups that are part of a community (WhatsApp's discussion groups feature).
These filter bubbles may be familiar to Gmail users, as the Google-owned email service introduced a similar feature in 2020 to simplify searches.
However, this first set of filters may be just the beginning. As multiple reports from WABetaInfo have suggested, WhatsApp has added features such as “Contacts” to filter out messages from unknown people or companies, “Favorites” to mark frequently used contacts, and the app's various betas. We're also working on other filters, including custom chat filters in Edition. .
WhatsApp said the filter option will be rolled out to users starting today and will be available to all users in the coming weeks.
