Anthropic, one of the world's best-funded generative AI startups with $7.6 billion in the bank, is launching a new paid startup targeting companies including highly regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, and law. We are launching a plan.
The plan, called “Team,” gives customers preferential access to Anthropic's Claude 3 family of generative AI models, as well as additional administrative and user management controls.
“Anthropic is introducing the Team plan in response to growing demand from enterprise customers who want to deploy Claude’s advanced AI capabilities across their organizations,” Scott White, product lead at Anthropic, told TechCrunch. . “Team plans are designed for companies of all sizes and industries who want to give their employees access to Claude's language understanding and production capabilities in a controlled and trusted environment.”
Joining Pro, Anthropic's individual premium plan, the Team plan offers “increased usage per user” compared to Pro and can “significantly increase” the number of chats users can have with Claude. Masu. (We reached out to Anthropic for numbers.) Team customers get all the benefits of Pro, including 200,000 tokens (about 150,000 words) of context windows and early access to new features.
A context window or context refers to input data (such as text) that a model considers before producing output (such as additional text). Models with small context windows tend to forget even the most recent conversations, whereas models with large contexts avoid this pitfall and have the added benefit of better visibility into the data flow they ingest.
Team also comes with new toggles to control billing and user management. And in the coming weeks, we'll be adding citations to validate AI-generated claims (models including Anthropic tend to be hallucinatory), and data repositories such as codebases and customer relationship management platforms (such as Salesforce). Collaboration features will be added, including integrations and perhaps the most interesting feature. This writer is a canvas for working with his team members on AI-generated documents and projects, he says Anthropic.
In the near future, Team customers will be able to take advantage of Claude 3's tool usage capabilities, which recently entered open beta. This will allow users to equip Claude 3 with custom tools to perform a wider range of tasks, such as retrieving a company's current stock price or local weather forecasts, similar to OpenAI's GPT.
“By enabling companies to deeply integrate Claude into their collaborative workflows, Team Plans will help companies move from AI experimentation to full-scale deployment in pursuit of transformative business outcomes. We will enable Anthropic to capture significant enterprise market share,” White said. “While in 2023 customers rapidly experimented with his AI, now in 2024 the focus has shifted to identifying and scaling applications that deliver tangible business value.”
Anthropic has big goals, but it can still take a lot of effort to get companies on board.
According to a recent Gartner study, 49% of companies say it's difficult to estimate and demonstrate the value of an AI project, making it difficult to sell internally. Another McKinsey poll found that 66% of executives believe it will take years for generative AI to produce substantial business results.
But corporate spending on generative AI is predicted to be huge. IDC projects it to reach $15.1 billion in 2027, an almost eight-fold increase from the 2023 total.
Perhaps generative AI vendors, especially OpenAI, are ramping up their enterprise-focused efforts.
OpenAI recently announced that over 600,000 users have signed up for ChatGPT Enterprise, the enterprise tier of its generative AI platform ChatGPT. We also introduced a number of tools aimed at meeting enterprise compliance and governance requirements, including a new user interface for comparing model performance and quality.
Anthropic offers competitive pricing for team plans. $30 per user per month, billed monthly with a minimum of 5 seats. OpenAI hasn't released pricing for ChatGPT Enterprise, but users on Reddit have reported estimates starting at $30 per user per month for 120 users and up to $60 per user per month for 250 users. There is.
“Anthropic's Team plan is competitive and affordable considering the value it provides to organizations,” said White. “The simplicity of the per-user model allows companies to start small and scale over time. This structure supports Anthropic's growth and stability while allowing companies to leverage AI strategically. Masu.”
It definitely helps Anthropic launch the team from a strong position.
Amazon completed a $4 billion investment in Anthropic in March (following Google's $2 billion investment), and the company is reportedly on track to generate more than $850 in annual revenue by the end of 2024. This is a 70% increase from previous forecasts. Anthropic may see Teams as its next logical path to expansion. But for now, at least, Anthropic appears to have the leeway to grow Team organically as it tries to convince holdout companies that its generative AI is better than other AIs.
Human iOS app
Another news from Anthropic Wednesday is that it's releasing an iOS app. This isn't all that surprising, considering the company has been hiring heavily for iOS engineers in recent months.
The iOS app offers free access as well as access to Claude 3, including upgraded Pro and Team access. Syncs with Anthropic clients on the web and leverages Claude 3's vision capabilities to provide real-time analysis of uploaded and saved images. For example, users can upload screenshots of charts from a presentation and ask Claude to summarize them.
“By offering the same features as the web version, such as the ability to sync chat history and upload photos, the iOS app makes Claude a convenient and integrated part of users' daily lives for both personal and professional use. “We aim to do that,” White said. “This complements our web interface and API offerings and provides another way for users to engage with our AI assistant. As we continue to develop and improve our technology, we will continue to expand our capabilities, including mobile app development and functionality. We continue to explore new ways to deliver value to our users across a variety of platforms and use cases.”
