Amazon is introducing an AI-powered search feature to Fire TV that will allow Alexa to answer open-ended questions about TV shows and movies and provide more specific recommendations tailored to the user's preferences.
Announced at Amazon's annual Devices event last September, the feature is powered by a proprietary large-scale language model (LLM), which allows the AI to understand natural language and phrases and answer specific questions like, “Which movie has the line, 'Life is like a box of chocolates'?” (Forrest Gump, by the way.) It can also surface options based on actors, characters, genres, and topics.

Alexa can also suggest titles that are included in streaming services you already subscribe to, so if you ask Alexa to find a psychological thriller with a surprise ending, it will only show you available content.
The new feature will be available in the coming weeks to U.S. customers who own Fire TV devices running Fire OS 6 or later.
The new search feature is the latest in Amazon's push to add AI-powered generational features to Fire TV: the company previously announced an AI-powered image generator for TV backgrounds, as well as three Alexa experiences that let you play games and create music.
