Apple is bringing ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot experience that leverages OpenAI's GPT-4 and other generative AI models, to Siri and other Apple apps. Apple announced the news at its annual WorldWide Developer Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino this year.
Apple says Siri can tap ChatGPT to ask for “expertise” that could come in handy: For example, if you need menu ideas to cook a friend a meal using ingredients from your garden, you can ask Siri, and if you give permission, the prompt will automatically be sent to ChatGPT.
When asking ChatGPT a question via Siri, you can include photos and ask questions related to documents and PDFs. Apple has also integrated ChatGPT into system-wide writing tools like Compose, which lets you create content in ChatGPT including images, or ask for your initial idea and send it to ChatGPT to receive revisions and variations.
According to Apple, ChatGPT integration will be coming to iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS later this year. There is no need to create a ChatGPT account and it is free to use, and if you subscribe to one of OpenAI's ChatGPT premium plans, the ChatGPT integration will give you access to paid features within Siri and other Apple apps.
