One of the sure ways you know you're at a developer conference is when the audience gets really excited when they announce their new calculator app, the addition of which has received some of the biggest applause so far at WWDC 2024. Indeed, the company has just about an hour left to unveil all of its intelligence capabilities.
The classic iOS tip calculator finally comes to the big screen. It takes advantage of the expanded screen real estate to provide new features that weren't available on the iPhone. The biggest new feature is the addition of Math Notes, which does the math for you.
What makes the iPad a more interesting option is its capabilities in the education sector, although there are undoubtedly plenty of teachers who rebel against apps that do all the work for you, and back in the day we all thought graphing calculators were good enough.
You can draw math equations with Apple Pencil, and the onboard AI will do the hard work of actually solving the problem. Apple mentioned briefly during today's event that the feature will also be coming to macOS Sequoia, which and iPadOS 15 are both due to be released later this year.
Apple also announced visionOS 2 for the Vision Pro and updates to the Photos app.
