Style DNA, an AI-powered fashion stylist app, creates a personalized style profile from a single selfie. The app is especially useful for people interested in seasonal color analysis, the process of determining the best colors to match an individual's skin tone. This service can be pricey, with professionals charging over $300, but using AI could significantly reduce the cost.
By analyzing your skin tone and facial features, Style DNA determines your seasonal color type (such as Light Summer or Dark Autumn) and recommends appropriate clothing styles.
Additionally, the app offers features like personalized shopping recommendations and wardrobe management. It suggests outfits based on your height and body type, and allows you to scan your existing wardrobe items with your phone's camera and upload them to the platform. The app also helps you avoid impulse buys while shopping by giving you advice on what to wear based on your outfit.
“[Style DNA] “Instead of predicting what a user will buy based on their past shopping history, we generate personalized recommendations based on an individual's appearance, so we power that personalization in real time and standardize the data with a quick selfie,” co-founder Elena Volkova told TechCrunch.
The app recently integrated generative AI into its product, releasing a new chatbot assistant that acts as a personal stylist, allowing you to ask specific questions about what to wear to different events, such as what color would go best with green cargo pants.
Style DNA suggests clothing items from a marketplace of over 150 retailers, including H&M, Zara, Old Navy and Urban Outfitters, and combines them with items you already own to create custom outfits tailored to an individual's look and preferences.
Volkova explains that the approach is similar to Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), which combines large-scale language models (LLMs) with traditional databases. In this case, Style DNA is trained using information such as current fashion trends, the expertise of professional image consultants, and a dataset of millions of images to help the AI understand fabrics and how different patterns and cuts look on different body types. Style DNA uses ChatGPT 4.0 as its LLM.
The company also has other plans, including releasing a men's version of the app and a new feature that will give outfit recommendations based on a user's location and current weather.
Since its launch in 2022, Style DNA has garnered 3.2 million downloads, over 300,000 active users and 70,000 paid subscribers. The company previously secured pre-seed funding of €3.4 million from Black River Ventures and is running a crowdfunding campaign.
The app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store.
