Until recently, saving the world wasn't a profitable endeavor. But as the planet warms, a range of startups and investors have emerged that have made a clear business case for reducing humanity's impact on the planet.
We are excited to have Rebecca Hu, co-founder and CEO of Glacier, Allison Wolff, co-founder and CEO of Vibrant Planet, and Hyuk-Jeen Suh, co-founder of Venx and general partner at SkyRiver Ventures, join us on the Builders Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2024, taking place October 28-30 in San Francisco.
During a panel titled “How Startups Can Save the World,” the investor and two founders will share their insights on starting a climate-centric company, including how they navigate a new and complex market, how their mission helps drive innovation and adoption, and how they balance the planet with profits.
Rebecca Fu co-founded Glacier to create a waste-free world. Using AI to process reams of data from a series of sensors, the company's custom robots can sift through piles of waste and pick out high-priority recyclable materials more accurately and quickly than manual methods. The goal is to help companies and governments improve their current dismal recycling rates.
For Alison Wolf, the recent wildfires that ravaged California left an indelible impression on her, and inspired her to co-found Vibrant Planet, a software and data startup focused on protecting vital ecosystems. The company's platform brings together stakeholders from government, industry, nonprofits, and the public to develop mutually beneficial strategies to reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires, protect water and biodiversity, and remove carbon from the atmosphere.
Hyuk-Jeen Suh, like many of his peers, has spent years investing in deep tech, scouting out founders, building ad-hoc syndicates, and repeating the process with the next deal. A few years ago, he had an epiphany: Why don't investors work more closely together and leverage economies of scale to find more and better deals? He and four other investors founded Venx, a collaborative venture hub inspired by startup accelerators.
