Meta AI's Imagine feature, which uses generative AI to turn text prompts into images, is now expanding to Facebook and Instagram, the company announced Wednesday at Meta Connect 2024. The update will allow users to use the prompts to generate AI photos directly in their feed, stories, and Facebook profile photos.
The new feature allows users and creators to generate creative, eye-catching images to accompany their text, helping to draw more attention to their posts and shares. Once the images are shared, friends and followers can see them, react to them, and even copy them, Meta says.

Facebook users already upload pictures of themselves and other things like characters or animals as their profile pictures to better protect their privacy. Now they won't have to hunt for such photos and will be able to create them easily.
As part of the update, the AI can now also suggest captions for Facebook and Instagram stories.
Image generation has also been introduced to Messenger, allowing users to create personalized chat themes, which can be accessed by tapping on “Themes” in a chat. While users have previously been able to change the color of their chat background and speech bubbles, Meta AI gives users far more options when it comes to the types of images they can use.

Meta says it's also testing new AI-generated content in its Facebook and Instagram feeds that will surface AI-created images based on users' interests and trends.

It's primarily designed to encourage users to try out Meta AI by tapping on suggested prompts to reimagine photos or swiping to generate content in real-time using Meta Imagine AI.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the event that Meta AI differentiates itself not only by offering “cutting-edge AI models” but also by providing “free, unlimited access to those models that can be easily integrated into our range of products and apps.”
“Meta AI is on track to be the world's most used AI assistant by the end of the year. In fact, it's probably already there… We're approaching 500 million monthly active users and we've yet to launch in some of the biggest countries,” Zuckerberg added.
