iOS 18 Control Center: 18 apps that add useful actions to your iPhone

Apple's iOS 18 software update rolled out earlier this month, bringing significant changes to iOS Control Center, making it easier to access commonly used features by simply swiping down from the home screen. Now, in addition to existing controls like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and flashlight, Apple is allowing third-party app developers to create controls for their own apps.

Below, we've compiled a list of iOS 18-compatible apps that users can try to take advantage of the redesigned Control Center.

Notice that Bulletin, an AI-powered news reader app that summarizes articles, has a total of nine Control Center widgets (the most we've ever seen). These include new options to quickly perform actions in the app, such as going directly to the For You tab without opening the app. You also have the option to navigate to different news categories such as 'Business', 'Entertainment', 'Fashion', 'Sports', and 'Technology'. There's also an option to invoke the app's “Smart Summary” feature, which uses AI to summarize the day's top stories.

CARROT Weather, the nifty weather forecasting app, also benefits from an iOS update with two Control Center widgets. Users can add shortcuts and[天気]tab and[地図]You can now open tabs quickly.

Recipe organizer and meal planner app Crouton has launched a convenient Control Center widget for users who want to import new recipes with one tap.

Cheatsheet is a widget that lets you write down important reminders like hotel room numbers, license plate numbers, lock combinations, etc., and make them instantly accessible from your iPhone home screen. The app now has a Control Center widget where you can swipe down to access one of your most important notes. There's also a new option to add new “cheats” or notes.

FitBee is a new nutrition tracking app that allows you to record your meals by taking photos, and its AI can estimate the calories and macros of your meals, according to the app's developer. FitBee recently released two features that take advantage of the new Control Center. This includes the ability to scan barcodes and take photos of food, allowing users to log even faster.

Focused Work, a time management app that helps users focus, has a new control widget that lets you start a focus session and access a “scratch pad,” a notes section where you can jot down thoughts you can revisit after the session.

LookUp is a dictionary app that teaches users one word a day. Several actions have been introduced to the Control Center. These include the ability to search for words, scan words with your phone's camera to see their definitions, and set the app's “Reading Mode” to turn on Live Activity for quick reviews. Designed for newborn care, the Mango Baby app offers five useful widgets that can be added to a parent's control center. The app now allows users to record diaper changes. It also provides the option to set various timers such as sleep timer, pumping timer, bath timer, and tummy time timer to help parents keep track of their baby's daily routine.

Medisos

The most notable feature offered by MediSOS is that when users press the SOS button on the app, an emergency siren is activated, alerting those around them that medical attention is required. Thanks to the iOS 18 update, you can now initiate a medical emergency alarm from Control Center.

Waterllama, an app that tracks daily water intake to ensure people stay hydrated, has a new Control Center widget that allows users to quickly add custom amounts of water and other beverages to their daily total.
