Google is adding new AI-powered features to India Maps, including an AI-powered overview, experience search, and weather alerts.
The Maps app analyzes reviews and displays an overview of the location. The company made the announcement on Thursday at its annual Google for India event.
Additionally, users will be able to search for items and experiences on the map. For example, you can request “unique picnic spots” or “themed birthday cakes” to find cake sellers.
When people ask such questions, Google Maps will display an image-first experience that prioritizes photos uploaded by businesses and users, the company said.
Google has been using image recognition to associate place labels and descriptions with such queries.
The company also said users will see new weather alerts during navigation for areas with poor visibility due to fog or flooded roads.
The bundle of new features will be rolled out to users in India starting later this month. AI-powered review summaries were already launched on U.S. Maps in February. Google competitor Yelp is also showing company overviews in its revamped feed in the US
In July, Google added a range of India-specific features to Maps. This includes improved navigation guidance, improved navigation on elevated roads and narrow roads, EV charging stations, community-contributed lists for location searches in selected cities, and more.
