Spotify today introduced a new feature called Offline Backup. This feature for premium users is basically a list of recently listened songs that can be used offline. Updates automatically based on your viewing history.
Paid users can already download songs for offline use. But Spotify wants to make more songs available for offline playback by leveraging a local cache on your device of recently streamed tracks and some songs currently in the playing queue.
The list is not personalized by an algorithm, but you can filter by artist, mood, and even genre.
This list only appears if you've enabled offline playback and have recently streamed at least 5 songs. To adjust your offline listening settings,[設定とプライバシー]>[ストレージ]>[オフライン リスニング]and[設定とプライバシー]>[再生]>[オフライン]Use toggle.
Spotify says offline backup playlists will automatically appear on your home screen when you're not connected to the internet. Alternatively, you can add the list to your library for easy access.
Notably, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said last year that the company was testing a feature called “offline mixes.” However, it is unclear whether Spotify has rolled out the feature to all users. Offline backup could also be a new version of the offline mix feature.
Rival service YouTube Music already has an “offline mixtape” feature and an option to automatically download music you like. Additionally, the Google-owned service allows users to automatically download up to 500 songs into various playlists when they turn on the “Smart Download” feature.
