Amazon One Medical is expanding its telemedicine services by launching prepaid, low-cost treatment plans and drug delivery for several beauty and lifestyle issues. Customers can receive treatment plans and medications for male hair loss for just $16 a month, anti-aging skin care for $10 a month, and erectile dysfunction care for $19 a month.
Other treatment plans include medication for motion sickness and eyelash growth.
The move puts Amazon in direct competition with Hims & Hers, a direct-to-consumer telemedicine company that offers treatment plans for a variety of health issues, including hair loss, erectile dysfunction and weight loss, for a monthly fee.
Prime members will be able to view telemedicine consultations and drug prices for their desired treatment before proceeding with treatment. On-demand message visits cost $29 and video visits cost $49.
Amazon says customers only pay for doctor visits and medicines, and there are no additional fees, costs or subscriptions beyond Amazon Prime.
After a medication is prescribed, Prime members can have it delivered (sometimes within hours).
“This simple care experience was built to meet the needs of today's customers,” said Dr. Vin Gupta, chief medical officer of Amazon Pharmacy, in a press release. “Amazon will help ease the burden on patients who want to proceed with treatment but are tired of navigating hurdles in the healthcare system, waiting in long lines at pharmacies, or feeling anxious about treatment. We are working on unexpected bills and drug costs.
Thursday's announcement marks Amazon's latest effort to accelerate healthcare services.
A few weeks ago, Amazon Pharmacy announced that it would expand its same-day delivery service to 20 more U.S. cities next year, including Boston, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and San Diego. Amazon plans to reveal 15 other cities in the coming months.
Amazon acquired primary care technology provider One Medical in 2022 and launched Amazon One Medical the following year. The company launched Amazon Pharmacy in 2020 after acquiring online pharmacy PillPack in 2018. Last year, Amazon launched RxPass, a service that provides Prime members in the U.S. with as many generic drugs as they need for $5 a month.
