Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s biggest conference of the year is just around the corner, and all signs point to it being an eventful one. AWS re:Invent 2024 kicks off in Las Vegas on Sunday, with sessions scheduled to run until December 6th. The keynote featuring AWS CEO Matt Garman will be held on December 3rd at exactly 8am Pacific Time.
AWS will be livestreaming the keynote on YouTube and will be covering everything presented on stage. Pay attention to that as well as the stories that pop up over the course of re:Invent.
Notably, this is Garman's first time at re:Invent as AWS CEO. His predecessor, Adam Selipsky, resigned in May after just three years at the helm.
So what can you expect?
Garman will need to address the market perception that AWS continues to lag behind Microsoft and Google in the generative AI race. AWS has introduced a number of generative AI services in recent months, with the company claiming that revenue from generative AI is in the “billions” of dollars.
In another win, just a few weeks ago, AWS strengthened its partnership with Anthropic by becoming the AI company's primary model training partner and agreeing to have Anthropic's team guide future AI chip design efforts. I did.
However, AWS has also faced setbacks, including the departure of top AI executive Matt Wood and delays to its flagship Olympus model.
Garman will almost certainly talk about generative AI in his keynote. (re:Invent has more than 500 generative AI-related sessions in its catalog.) But he told TechCrunch in October that this year's re:Invent is “more than just an AI conference.”
“I think we're going to see innovation across the stack of compute, storage, databases, analytics and AI,” he said in an interview. “It's going to span the entire AWS stack.”
Garman's keynote is expected to include a cameo appearance from Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. Amazon says this theme “highlights how AWS is reinventing fundamental building blocks and developing new experiences that give our customers and partners what they need to build a better future.” That's a pretty exaggerated explanation. ”
AWS Vice President Swami Sivasubramanian will give an AI and data-focused presentation on new AWS services on December 4th. And on December 5th, Amazon CTO Werner Vogels will take a deep dive into next year's technology predictions, a long-time re:Invent tradition.
Sivasubramanian and Vogels' speeches, like Garman's, will be streamed on YouTube and will also be featured on TechCrunch.
