Getting into the holiday spirit but still feeling stuck at work? With a cute new macOS called Festivitas, you can decorate your Mac computer screen with twinkling holiday lights that hang from your menu bar and illuminate your dock. You can.
This quirky holiday treat was created by software developer Simon B. Støvring, creator of other developer-favorite iOS apps like text editor Runestone, scripting app Scriptable, and JSON editor Jayson. It was done. He's been teasing the app on social media for days before its release, showing off the various customizations he's added.
At startup, you can adjust cable thickness, light size, spacing, drop height and width, flashing pattern, flashing speed, color, etc. You can also switch to white lights instead of colored lights and disable dock or menu bar lights if you wish.
That way, if you feel like the lights are preventing you from seeing things like important Slack notifications in the dock, you can simply turn them off during work hours. Alternatively, if the menu bar light gets in the way of your collection of open Chrome tabs, you can adjust the drop height so that the light is above the tabs, for example.
This app requires macOS 14.6 or later and must first be enabled in your Mac's accessibility settings to function. (However, this is a simple toggle switch). The light is then automatically added to your Mac, and you can adjust its appearance and customize it to your liking. To turn it off, simply exit the app from the menu bar or dock.
The new app can be freely downloaded at any price from the Festivitas website.
Støvring said users have so far paid between 4 and 30 euros for the app.
