Following Apple's integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, OpenAI has detailed how data is processed when using ChatGPT through Apple's integration.
You can use ChatGPT through Apple integration without logging into your ChatGPT account, but logging into your account gives you access to additional features. For example, you can access OpenAI's more powerful AI models, save your conversations, and more.
Use ChatGPT without an account through Apple integration
If you use ChatGPT through the Apple integration without logging into your ChatGPT account, OpenAI says it will not receive your IP address, store your requests, or use those requests to train your AI models.
The company says your conversations will be “processed only by OpenAI to provide secure responses and comply with applicable laws.”
If you decide to continue a conversation you originally started through the Apple integration in the ChatGPT app or website, OpenAI will process your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. This means that OpenAI has access to your IP address, browser type and settings, date and time of your request, time zone, country, device information, and more.
OpenAI also uses online analytics tools that use cookies to enable us to analyze how users interact with ChatGPT.
Use ChatGPT with your account through Apple integration
When you connect your account to the Apple integration, OpenAI's existing data settings are applied.
For example, conversations with ChatGPT through the Apple integration will also be saved in your account's chat history if you have configured your settings to save conversations. This means you can access it later through your account.
Additionally, if your ChatGPT settings indicate that you do not want to use conversations to train your OpenAI model, the same applies to interacting with ChatGPT via Apple's integration.
When you connect your account, OpenAI makes information about your ChatGPT account available on your device to connect your account. This information includes your name, email address, profile picture, workspace name, and pricing plan.
