Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has teased an upcoming generative AI feature for the social app that will allow creators to “change almost every aspect” of their videos using text prompts. In a video shared on Thursday, Mosseri said the editing tool leverages Meta's Movie Generation AI model and is expected to be rolled out on social networks sometime next year.
“We're working on some really exciting AI tools for video creators,” Mosseri said. “So many of you are creating the great content that makes Instagram what it is, and we want to give you even more tools to bring your ideas to life. And whatever you want to do with your videos, we want to give you more tools to bring your ideas to life. “You should be able to do it. You should be able to change your clothes, change your sitting situation, add chains, anything you can think of,” he added.
This video previews the AI editing features that Mosseri is teasing. This includes features such as changing your outfit, changing your background environment, adding jewelry, and changing your overall appearance.

For example, in one scene Mosseri's background changes to a snowy atmosphere, and in another he transforms into a doll-like animated version of himself.
The preview looks clean and seamless, but it's unclear whether the user-facing editing tools will render the same kind of results after launch.
When Meta announced Movie Gen in October, the company said the model would let you create video and sound and edit existing videos using simple text input. Mehta said at the time that the AI video generator would not be available to the public. Today's announcement reveals that Meta will leverage this model to give Instagram creators even more AI editing tools for their videos.
It's worth noting that Meta announced Movie Gen a few months after OpenAI and Adobe announced similar models. OpenAI's Sora was released to some users earlier this month, and Adobe began allowing some users to test its Firefly video generator in October.
