President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed reports that Sriram Krishnan, most recently a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), will become senior policy advisor for AI in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
President Trump said in a statement that Krishnan will “work with the President's Council of Science and Technology Advisers to help shape and coordinate AI policy across the government.” And in a post on X, Krishnan said he will work closely with former PayPal COO David Sachs, who was recently named Trump's crypto and AI “emperor.”
“I am honored to serve our country and ensure America's continued leadership in AI,” Krishnan wrote. “Donald Trump, thank you for this opportunity.”
An entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and podcaster, Mr. Krishnan previously led product teams at Microsoft, Twitter, and Yahoo!. (Disclosure: TechCrunch's parent company), Facebook, and Snap. He and his wife Aarthi Ramamurthy became even more famous in 2021 as podcast hosts.
Mr. Krishnan has a close relationship with Mr. Musk, and after Mr. Musk acquired Twitter (now X) in 2022, he worked with Mr. Musk to rebuild Twitter (now X). Musk co-leads the Department for Government Efficiency, a policy group that recommends restructuring the government and cutting federal spending. .
Mr. Krishnan was appointed general partner of a16z in February 2021 and was selected to lead the firm's London office, its first non-US location, in 2023.
