The Lockscreen platform today announced that it will launch a new, generic, AI-based shopping experience. We propose a variety of costumes for your personalized avatars. The company is partnering with Google to deploy the experience using the company's Gemini model and Vertex AI.
Apart from that, the company also received new support from Google, according to people familiar with the issue. This was already an investor. The gaze and Google did not comment on the funding details.
Gaze said it has already experimented with a new generation of AI-powered experiences in the US through a new app called Glance AI. The startup plans to roll out the experience to all users in the US and India in the coming months.
Google is looking to use Gemini and cloud platforms for more companies to implement AI in India. The company is also investing in startups in parallel. Recently, we have supported the webtoon platform Toonsutra.
Naveen Tewari, CEO of Glance, said the app's models understand fashion trends and personalize suggestions.
“Think of this experience as you're looking at a fashion magazine with the latest apparel, the model for each page,” Tewari said.
Tewari wants the company to build a discovery engine and feed so that it can explore a variety of items and buy the items it likes most.
Users who download the app will need to upload their own selfies, select their gender, hair length, ethnicity, and specify their body type during the onboarding process. The app then uses AI to generate the model. Then, at first glance, you'll see a variety of appearances on your lock screen. You can tap the button on the lock screen to view suggestions from the web that match the apparel of your AI-generated avatar.
Glance retrieves these results from e-commerce sites that have partnered with. At the time of its launch, the company said it had 400 partners. The startup will be reduced if a customer completes a purchase thanks to affiliate links.
The seemingly AI app allows users to scroll through multiple costume suggestions or place them on the lock screen. The app also gives you suggestions for other items that exist in the scene, such as guitars and candles, apart from apparel. However, it is not available for purchase at this time. In the future, users can use chat to find inspiration for a specific look, as well as adjust the proposal using mechanisms like upvote/downvote.
With over 300 million active users in markets such as India, Japan and Indonesia, Glance displays content primarily on the lock screen of Android-powered mobile phones. India is the company's largest user base, but last year it piloted a lockscreen solution in the US in partnership with Motorola. The company has begun to drive this content to be displayed on smart TVs as well.
Businesses and startups are beginning with tech giants like Google and Amazon, and are trying to solve personalization in the e-commerce world through AI-powered search and agents. The gaze aims to become an app that encourages users to buy clothes.
