SNAP announced its standalone Lens Studio IOS app and web tools, announced on Wednesday. The new tool is designed to make it easy for anyone to create an AR lens via text prompts and simple editing tools.
The Lens Studio app allows users to generate their own AI effects, add Bitmoji, browse trending templates and create customized lenses.
Until now, Lens Studios could only be accessed via desktop applications aimed at professional developers. While desktop applications will remain a major tool for professionals, SNAP says the new iOS apps and web tools are designed to allow people of all skill levels to create lenses.

“These are experimental new tools that make it easier than ever to create, publish and play with Snapchat lenses you've created,” Snap wrote in a blog post. “Now you can generate your own AI effects and enjoy Bitmoji of your dancing, as well as express yourself with a lens that reflects your mood and inner jokes — whether you're on the go or near your computer.”
SNAP currently has an ecosystem of over 400,000 professional AR developers, but the company aims to attract people interested in creating lenses with the launch of these simpler tools.
SNAP is considered the leader in AR thanks to the early adoption of technology via AR filters and lenses. It is clear that the company is working to invest in the space, even if others have withdrawn. Last year, Meta pissed off creators after deciding to shut down the Spark AR platform. By opening access to AR creation, SNAP is doubling its vision for technology.
As Snap is putting the creation of ARs into more people's hands, the company is also rolling out advanced tools for professionals. Yesterday, SNAP released a new lens studio tool that AR creators and developers can use to build Bitmoji games. The tools include a turn-based system that enables front and rear gameplay, as well as a new customizable character controller that supports a variety of gameplay styles and more.
