According to Bloomberg, Meta is debating billions of dollars in scale AI investments. In fact, the transaction value could be reported to be over $10 billion, making it one of the biggest external AI investments by Facebook's parent company and the largest fundraising event ever for a private company.
Scale AI (Chapter Alexandr Wang depicted above) provides data labeling services to companies such as Microsoft and Openai, helping to train AI models. Much of that labeling work is carried out by contractors. In fact, the Ministry of Labor recently stopped investigating whether the company misclassifies employees.
According to Bloomberg, the company generated revenue of $870 million last year and expects it to win $2 billion this year.
Meta is already an investor in the Scale AI $1 billion Series F, valued the company at $13.8 billion. AI also built Defence Llama, a large-scale language model designed for military use, on top of the Lama 3 of Meta.
