Jaguar Land Rover said on Wednesday that an unspecified amount of data was stolen during a cyberattack that stopped the vehicle assembly line.
In a statement Wednesday, the UK-based Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles manufacturers said they know that “some data” was obtained in the incident.
Companies operating in the UK are obligated to notify the Information Committee's office within three days of discovering a data breach. It is not immediately clear whether the data is related to the company, its employees, or customers.
Jaguar Land Rover revealed the cyber attack on September 2, saying the incident forced the company to shut down its systems, “significantly disrupted” its production line and sales operations. The incident also affects the company's supply chain, including vehicle repairs.
The automaker is one of the UK's largest employers with over 33,000 staff. According to one newspaper report, UK government officials are said to be concerned about the economic influx of violations, and recovery is expected to take weeks rather than days.
