Instagram Threads has a much-requested feature and will compete with X/Twitter. The text-based social networking app is experimenting with the ability to save posts. This allows users to bookmark their favorite posts and revisit them later.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the feature in a Threads post on Wednesday, noting that the company had just begun limited testing.
Users who have tested can find the new save feature under the three-dot menu in the top right corner of their posts. Instagram's bookmark icon is easily accessible next to the Like, Comment, and Share buttons, so I'm not sure why Threads chose to hide this feature in the More Options menu. X recently moved the bookmark button on iOS to make it easier to find. The thread is likely to continue testing the best locations for new save features.
Instagram has had bookmarking since 2016, so it makes sense that Threads would adopt this feature as well. The ability to save content to read later is useful when you want to see a post, especially if it contains a link to a long article, but you don't have time to read it right now.
Since Threads' debut last year, the app has continually rolled out new features to appeal to users and compete against rivals like X, Bluesky, Mastodon, Nostr, Post, and Spill. Last month, the platform confirmed it was working on a “trending” feature that would surface trending topics.
During Meta's fourth quarter earnings call, Threads revealed that it has more than 130 million monthly active users.
