Notion announced a new calendar based on Cron last month, but more privacy-focused products may soon be added to its productivity suit. The company announced today that it has acquired Skiff, a platform that provides end-to-end encrypted file storage, documents, calendar events, and email.
Skiff was founded in 2020 by Andrew Milich and Jason Pinsberg. The company raised $14.2 million in two rounds from investors including Sequoia Capital, along with Alphabet Chairman John Hennessy, former Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang, and Eventbrite co-founders Julia Hartz and Kevin Hartz. raised funds. In a conversation with the co-founders posted on Notion's blog, company COO Akshay Kothari said Notion had been keeping an eye on Skiff's efforts from the beginning.
“Skiff started showing up on our radar at Notion from the beginning. I actually tried to reach out to you back in 2020 when you were developing the Docs product, but we couldn’t connect at the time. , I have been monitoring your progress. The company started as a secure alternative to Google Docs, but has also built other productivity solutions like calendars and email.
Skiff said on its website that the company is joining Notion. We reached out to Notion for clarification on whether Skiff as a product will be discontinued.
Notion's last acquisition was workflow management tool Flowdash in 2022. Before that, we acquired Cron and India-based Automate.io, which had a suite of integrations with 200 services.
