TikTok has released a “reimagined” app natively on Apple Vision Pro, the company announced Thursday. Vision Pro launched on February 2nd and already has over 1,000 apps designed specifically for this new device, including one of today's most popular social platforms. Vision Pro allows you to watch his TikTok videos via your browser, but the new native app allows for a more immersive viewing experience.
The TikTok Vision Pro app moves the navigation bar and Like button off-screen so you can watch the entire video, and the comments section and creator profile appear as an extension next to your feed.
Clicking on the comments section on the mobile app will display it above the video, and clicking on someone's profile will take you to the full page. However, with Vision Pro, you can see them all at once. TikTok says Vision Pro removes screen size and spatial boundaries, allowing for a more immersive content experience. As a result, you can watch the video while scrolling through the comments without seeing any interruptions, unlike on the mobile app.
The app allows you to watch TikTok videos in immersive locations like Yosemite or the moon. It also works with your device's Share Spaces feature, so you can watch his TikTok videos while working on other apps.
In the mobile app, the navigation bar is on the right, but in the Vision Pro app, the navigation bar has been moved to the left. TikTok says it has made changes to align with Apple Vision Pro design best practices. Profile, share, like, comment, and sound icons are all on the right.
New app release comes weeks after TikTok's product lead Confirmed That the company was developing an app.
At launch, Apple Vision Pro came with more than 600 apps designed for the headset, including Slack, Zoom, Microsoft 365 apps, and Disney+. Earlier this week, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, Greg Jozwiak, revealed that Vision Pro currently has more than 1,000 apps designed specifically for Vision Pro. The Vision Pro can run over 1.5 million compatible iOS and iPad apps, but the spatial apps built for the headset are designed to take advantage of its specific capabilities.
It makes sense that TikTok would want to offer a spatial app designed specifically for headsets. Especially since other entertainment/video apps like Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video do so. YouTube, one of TikTok's biggest competitors, said the Vision Pro app is “on the roadmap,” but did not provide a specific timeline. Launching the app first gives TikTok a slight advantage over YouTube.
