Spotify is rolling out a new feature called Song Psychic that allows customers to ask Spotify questions and get answers in the form of music. This addition builds on the success of Spotify's personalized year-end review called Wrapped, which provides a clever way to turn Spotify music data into insights designed for social sharing. But in the case of Song Psychic, the goal is not to look back at the past or listening history, but rather to leverage her Spotify understanding of music and song titles to answer various personal questions like asking a psychic or a magic 8 ball. is to answer questions. It's just for fun.
To use this feature, visit Spotify.com/songpsychic on your mobile device or scan the QR code on the Song Psychic website.
When you enter the new experience, you can choose from a wide variety of categories, including School, Friends & Family, Love, Career, Life's Biggest Mysteries, My Future, Me, Style, Lunch, and more. (The latter will help you decide what to have for lunch!)
Each section includes advance answers that you can tap to get answers, such as “Am I a drama?”, “Does my crush like me?”, “Will I get a raise?” There are many questions entered. Should I go to prom? ” There are many others. Or, start typing your own question in the box provided and the app will start showing other question suggestions.
Once you enter your question, “Song Psychic” will ask you to press your finger on the screen. Then, mysterious music plays in the background, colors swirl, and the answer appears in the form of a song.
For example, if someone asks you if they have a crush, they might respond with a song titled “You Wish” (Ouch!), or something more positive. Some of the answers are a little mysterious. Just as Magic 8-Ball sometimes refuses to answer a question with a response like “Ask me again later,” Spotify's Song Psychic also responds with its own answers like “Why?” There is a possibility. instead of responding directly. Or you can offer a vague time frame, like “Eventually” (Tame Impala song). However, all of its responses are in the form of music tracks.
I found that I didn't have to press my finger on the screen to actually get a response. This is just a gimmick. However, if you tap the button below, a built-in share sheet will pop up to share your answer to WhatsApp, Instagram Stories, IG DM, Messenger, Facebook/Facebook Stories, Snapchat, X, Messages, etc. .
Spotify doesn't advertise the experience as being AI-powered, but it does make you feel like you're asking an omniscient AI chatbot a question. (The company says it works by matching specific keywords in song titles or questions.) However, the company says in its FAQ that the answers are “completely randomly generated.” In other words, it does not use personal data to draw conclusions. The site also warns that the experience is designed for “entertainment purposes only” and “should not be considered a source of serious advice on any matter whatsoever,” which is a sign that a lawyer told Spotify It was probably added by force.
There may be a slight delay while interacting with the app and getting a response. Therefore, it is nowhere near as fast as ChatGPT. Also, during testing, the screen froze and the back button stopped working. Still, the experience is a lot of fun, and if the promotion goes well, users could spend even more time on their Spotify mobile app. However, Song Psychic isn't immediately available from its own hub within the app, so you'll need to visit the website multiple times to get it to pop up.
Song Psychic is available to Spotify free and premium subscribers in 64 markets and 21 languages, the company said.
The company confirmed that Song Psychic is one of a number of initiatives aimed at “celebrating the spirit of Wrapped all year long.” Already, fans and artists are enjoying everything from the New Year-inspired “Playlist in a Bottle” to the “My Top Five” Artist Experience with Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Rosalla, BTS, and Taylor Swift. An original interactive experience is debuting with various surprises.
