Many of Meta's top social apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and the new app Threads, are all reportedly experiencing outages as of Tuesday morning. When loading an app or website, users receive an error message that says “Something went wrong” and must try again later. Or, for Facebook, you'll see a landing page where you're logged out, but you can't sign in either. If you are using the correct password. [Update, 12:11 PM ET: The apps appear to be working again. Meta said at 12:19 PM ET that the issue was β€˜technical’ in nature.]

The issue appears to have started sometime after 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday, according to reports on social media and various user-posted issue trackers like DownDetector. However, Meta's own status page only shows results related to Meta's business products, such as Ads Manager, rather than the platform as a whole. We have reached out to Meta to confirm the timing and report and will update when we have further information. Meanwhile, Metacommunication Director Andy Stone admitted that the following failures had occurred. Post to X“We understand that people are having issues accessing our services. We are currently working on this.”

We recognize that people have problems accessing our services. I'm currently working on this.

Given the size and scale of Meta's network, and the built-in redundancy, it is highly unusual for Meta to suffer such a major outage. Therefore, some people i doubt it As for the cause of this disorder, this day in particular is Election Day in many U.S. states, meaning millions of people head to polling places to vote in primaries on this day known as Super Tuesday. are doing. So the outage comes at the worst possible time for candidates and political groups trying to reach out to voters at the last minute and encourage people to go to the polls.

The fact that today is Super Tuesday is very, very suspenders

The company's family of apps, which also includes WhatsApp, had 3.98 million monthly active users at the end of last year, according to company data, and Meta's suite of apps played a big role during the election period. To limit their potential role in influencing election results, Meta disabled political ads in the lead up to important elections, such as the U.S. midterm elections. To address new concerns, Meta also announced that it will label political ads with AI-generated images for the 2024 election cycle.

In connection with the election and social media debate, Meta announced last week that it would retire its News tab and exit its news operations in the U.S. and Australia in April 2024.

Amazon Web Services' service health status indicates no recent issues at this time, but Meta operates its own data centers and is not aware of any issues with AWS. Regardless, you may still be experiencing issues.

Some people have reported issues with other sites such as YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), but those platforms appear to be up and running now.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino posted an update Shortly after news of the meta failure broke, it was confirmed that X did not suffer from any problems of its own.

“Tests, tests…positive, everything is working smoothly here,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, X owner Elon Musk ridiculed Meme-induced power outage. In another post, he also added“If you're reading this post, it's because our servers are working properly.”

Meta's problems don't seem to be limited to its consumer apps, nor are the company's employees. Posted in X This means I can't even log in and work. One Employees at Meta Reality Labs They said they were even kicked out of work “in the middle of a meeting.” in fact.

Although Meta did not indicate that it had been hacked today, the timing caused people's concern.

The fault was resolved approximately two hours after it occurred. In the post of X“Earlier today, technical issues were making it difficult to access some of our services,” Stone said in a statement. I apologize for the inconvenience.”
