X today announced a new long-form post format called Articles. This feature, available only to Premium+ subscribers and verified organizations, allows users to publish text-based posts, other herx posts, and embedded videos and images. This is similar to a post in a content management system like WordPress or an article on Medium.
Last year, the Elon Musk-owned social network raised the long-form post limit to 25,000 characters for paid users. As Engadget pointed out, the article limit appears to be even higher at his 100,000 characters.
this mailbox Chris Bakke shows that users can add bulleted lists and hyperlinked text to their posts. Bakke's recruitment agency, Laskie, was acquired by Company X last year.
Twitter debuted Notes as a long-form publishing medium in 2022, before Musk took over the company. But under Musk's management, the Notes project was put on hold, ad-free articles were removed, and his newsletter platform, Revenue, was shut down.
Still, in July 2023, Musk said the company was working on a way for creators to post long-form articles in mixed media.
“This will allow users to post very long and complex articles with mixed media. You can even publish a book if you want,” Musk said of the newly named “Articles” feature. I wrote this in response to the user who posted about it at the time.
Musk has long encouraged creators like MrBeast and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to post directly to X. With this latest move, the social media company aims to attract writers who want to post directly to the platform.
