The company previously announced in December that it was testing the feature on networks that support Mastodon and other ActivityPub protocols.
To opt in to the integration, go to your account settings and toggle fediverse sharing on. A pop-up will appear explaining what Fediverse is. The company describes Fediverse as a “social network of interconnected servers” that allows users to “follow others on different servers and view and interact with their content. .This is the same as giving users access to email, allowing them to communicate regardless of the service they choose. ”
When turned on, users on other servers (such as Mastodon) can find your thread profile and like, repost, and share your posts with multiple viewers. It will look like this. This gives you the opportunity to connect with other people who may not be on Threads, but are using alternative social networking apps.

However, there are also limitations. For example, you can't see in a thread who has replied to or liked posts from other servers. Also, you can't share posts with votes. During his FediForum conference earlier this week, Meta's Peter Cottle mentioned in a demo that the company is working on changing this.
Despite the shortcomings, it's still noteworthy that Meta, which launched its app just eight months ago, has made Threads part of its decentralized social network system.
