New Hampshire voters received a call from President Biden in January asking them not to vote in the primary. After a short but intensive investigation, the culprit was revealed to be Life Corporation. Life Corporation is a Texas-based company that has been arrested before for spreading false information.
The call in New Hampshire was brought to the attention of the state's attorney general in mid-January, who launched an investigation into the voter suppression attempt. Now, it is also clear from matching press releases from California AG Rob Bonta and the FCC that other agencies and authorities were quickly brought in.
Perhaps the phone tree of the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, which covers nearly the entire United States, lit up when Biden's AI-generated phone connected. It wasn't just robocalls, it was presidential impersonation and various other crimes.
Fake Biden calls the New Hampshire primary “a bunch of shit” and urges people to “save your vote for the November election.” For those interested, here's the audio of the call (courtesy of her AG office in New Hampshire):
Investigators traced the calls to a suspicious communications provider called Lingo, which included Americatel, BullsEyeComm, Clear Choice Communications, Excel Telecommunications, Impact Telecom, Matrix Business Technologies, Startec Global Communications, Trinsic Communications, and VarTec Telecom. It was also through. The FCC notes that this company (whatever its actual name) has been conducting illegal phone calls for years.
However, Ringo was only making the calls on behalf of Life Corporation, a Texas company owned by a man named Walter Monk and not immune to illegal activity. The FCC says it cited Rife and Monk in 2003 for “delivering clearly illegal prerecorded unsolicited advertisements to residential lines.”
Common sense would tell you that if they did it in 2003, and they did it last month, they may have done it several times in between, but that's a matter for investigators. .
Life Corp.'s website isn't very helpful. Whatever that means, they've been “successfully creating solutions since 1987.” When I thought, “Is there something I can do with Life Corporation?” The answer is probably YES. ” [sic] “Call us so we can work out a win-win deal.”
This is some kind of bullshit that suggests that the company may not actually be doing anything, or that whatever it is doing it may not be able to say out loud or in public. That's a story.
The company making the call has been identified, but this is just the beginning of the legal effort. Life Corporation and Ringo have both been issued cease-and-desist orders (by New Hampshire authorities and the FCC, respectively), but they could be sued, and I asked the New Hampshire AG about that possibility.
“The Election Law Division has also issued document retention notices and records to Life Corporation and several other entities, including Apple Telecom, that may have records related to the Attorney General’s ongoing investigation.” ,” the AG’s office wrote.
