Spotify isn't the only company dabbling in AI playlists. On Tuesday, Amazon announced it would do the same. Amazon Music is currently testing Maestro, an AI playlist generator. This allows U.S. customers using both iOS and Android to create playlists using voice or text prompts, which can also include emojis.
Amazon suggests that customers can create prompts that include activities, sounds, or emotions in addition to emojis. If you don't know what to write, you can also choose from the suggestions that appear at the bottom of the screen. After a few seconds, you should see an AI-generated playlist containing songs that theoretically match your input.
Because the product will be released in beta, Amazon warns that the technology behind Maestro “may not work the first time.” Similar to Spotify, it says it's also added some guardrails to the experience to proactively block offensive language and other inappropriate prompts. (People will eventually try to break through that barrier!)
Maestro is not widely available yet. While Spotify's AI generator begins testing in the UK and Australia, Amazon's product will be available for the time being to Prime customers and unlimited Amazon Music subscribers on iOS and Android in the US, as well as a “subset” of free Amazon Music users. It is scheduled to be released for. .
However, subscribers will have access to more features. For example, you'll be able to listen to a playlist immediately and save it for later, but Prime members and ad-supported users will only be able to hear her 30-second preview of a song before saving. This could lead to more users upgrading to a paid subscription if they like the AI features. This move also aligns with the general trend of making premium AI experiences into paid services.
To access Maestro, users must have the latest version of the Amazon Music mobile app and tap the Maestro option on the home screen. You may also see an option when you tap the plus sign to create a new playlist. From there, users can speak or write down ideas for playlist prompts, then tap “Let's go!” Start streaming. You can also save playlists and share them with your friends.
On Amazon, you can find “Meals for 😭 and 🍝”, “Make my 👶 a genius”, “Hip-hop in the Myspace era, 🏜️🌵🤠”, “The music my grandparents made”, “🎤🚿🧼”, It suggests playlists such as “I am”. I tracked down my friends and they were all hanging out without me. ” explains how ridiculous the prompts for this new experience are.
The company did not say when the beta would be rolled out more broadly, only that it would expand to more customers over time.
