Amazon Music announced Tuesday that it is testing a search feature powered by a new AI called “Explore,” designed to help fans learn more about their favorite artists.
To use this feature, users can tap the Search button at the bottom of the screen and enter the artist's name in the search bar. Next, select the Explore tab in the top left to help users discover information about the artist, including collaborations with other singers, related artists they don't know, and highlights from discography.
For example, when users search for jelly rolls, AI will direct them towards notable duets like “Save Me,” featuring Rainy Wilson. This feature also serves as a way to promote original content, such as the exclusive cover of “Beed'veve's Beed a Cowboy,” featuring T-Pain.
Additionally, users have the option to create AI-generated playlists. Last year, Amazon Music began answering an AI DJ from Spotify called Maestro as part of its strategy to compete with the streaming giant. Incorporating Maestro into the Explore feature may be aimed at encouraging more users to try out the AI playlist feature.
While the goal of Explore seems to be for users to be involved in the app for longer periods and connect with artists, it will come months after Amazon has raised the price of its unlimited music subscriptions by $1.
Explore is rolling out today, selecting subscribers to Amazon Music Unlimited in the US in the iOS app. However, it is important to note that beta features are currently limited to only 10,000 artists, such as Bad Bunny and BlackPink.
