Amazon Chime, Tech Giant's overwhelming Zoom and Google Meet alternative, is shutting down forever. The company confirmed on Wednesday that it would end support for chimes, including business call features, on February 20, 2026.
As part of this transition, Amazon has stopped accepting new chime accounts as of February 19, 2025.
From now until the end of the Chime, existing customers can schedule and host meetings, add and manage users, and take advantage of the capabilities of the Amazon Chime Administration Console, explains in a company blog post. . However, the Amazon Chime SDK is not affected.
Customers are encouraged to delete data before shutdown and migrate to another web meeting service. Amazon recommends other solutions such as AWS Wickr, Zoom, and Salesforce's Slack.
News of the shutdown was first reported by Business Insider. This points to Amazon will now turn its official meeting app into Zoom in the future.
Released in 2017 with a focus on business use, Chime was rarely adopted outside of Amazon. This factor was a major contribution to the shutdown, a spokesman told the outlet.
“When we decide to remove a service or feature, it's usually because we've introduced something better or our partners provide solutions that are suitable for our customers as well as our own employees.” An Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch via email. . “In Chime, our use is limited outside of Amazon, and our partners are leaning towards them because they offer excellent collaboration solutions.”
