Mike Krieger, one of the co-founders of Instagram and most recently co-founder of personalized news app Artifact (recently acquired by TechCrunch's parent company Yahoo), will join Anthropic as the company's first chief product officer. will be joining.

As CPO, Mr. Krieger will oversee Anthropic's product engineering, management and design efforts, helping the company expand its suite of AI apps and bring Claude, its generative AI technology, to more users, Anthropic said. It is working. In addition to consumer-focused projects like the recently released Claude app for mobile, Krieger is also responsible for Anthropic's enterprise services, subscriptions, and software.

“I have long admired Anthropic’s continued focus on building capable, trustworthy AI systems that empower humans and expand what technology can do,” Krieger said in a statement. Ta. “I'm excited to join the talented team at Anthropic and work with them to design and scale innovative products like Claude. The potential for AI to positively impact the world is enormous. We believe Anthropic has the talent, principles and technology to realize that potential.”

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei added: “Mike is a world-class engineer, architect, and leader. His background developing intuitive products and user experiences will be invaluable in creating new ways for people to interact with Claude, especially in the workplace. We are fortunate to have Mike's vision and expertise on our leadership team.”

Krieger, along with Instagram's other co-founder Kevin Systrom, left Instagram in 2018, a few years after Meta (then Facebook) acquired the social media platform for $1 billion. He and Systrom's goal was to develop a recommender system that would aggregate and suggest news articles, topics, and authors, and allow the broader community to like and comment on that content. , in January 2023 he collaborated to launch Artifact.

Artifact originally announced it would wind down in early 2024, but Yahoo! backed this move in April. The amount is not disclosed. Mr. Krieger worked with Mr. Systrom in an “advisory capacity” after the acquisition. It looks like the job is done.

Kriger's hiring comes days after Anthropic rival OpenAI demonstrated a more conversational and sophisticated experience for ChatGPT, the company's AI-powered chatbot platform, and Google announced that the tech giant's I/O This comes just days after previewing a major upgrade to Gemini chatbot technology at a developer conference. Anthropic also seems keen to move into the consumer market, and believes Krieger is the right person to do so.
