Apple has rejected Elon Musk's accusation that the App Store is biased against AI apps that compete with Openai.
“We showcase thousands of apps via charts, and present recommendations, curated lists of algorithms selected by experts using objective criteria,” the BBC quotes Apple as saying.
This response comes after Musk threatens to sue Apple via Xai. iPhoneMaker claims that “it is behaving in a way that makes it impossible for non-Openai AI companies to reach #1 on the App Store.”
Last year, Apple and Openai joined a partnership to integrate AI company models and ChatGpt into Apple products such as Siri and iOS. However, there is no evidence that the App Store prefers Openai over other AI companies. In fact, AI apps such as Perplexity and Deeksee came to the top of the App Store chart last year.
Over the past few years, Apple has probably ignored the claims of chart manipulation. But today, the company faces regulatory pressures and new laws around the world to limit its strength in the app distribution market. Also, Apple was recently tasked with a US district judge in an Epic Games case where it had not implemented policy changes as the courts directed.
