Apple is considering adding AI search engines from Openai, Prperxity and humanity to Safari, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior Vice President of Services, issued a statement while testifying in a US Department of Justice lawsuit against Alphabet. Queue disclosure is part of his testimony about Apple and Google's $2 billion annual contract, making Google the default search engine for Safari.
He said he believes searches in Safari fell for the first time last month, resulting in an increase in AI use.
Queue also said it believes AI search providers will replace traditional search engines like Google, so Apple is actively considering adding these services to its browsers. However, Cue pointed out that these services are probably not the default as they believe they still need to improve.
Apple has already had some discussion about the confusion, Kew said.
