Apple filed an appeal Monday against the EU's decision to fine the company for failing to comply with rules that require companies to allow developers to pilot users outside the App Store, according to multiple reports.
The European Commission issued a fine in April, saying that Apple is not complying with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) regulations to allow developers to accept payments for apps outside of Apple's ecosystem.
Apple revised the fee structure for app distribution in the EU in late June, using a more complex framework, including a Core Technology Committee to accommodate early acquisition fees, store service fees, and alternative payment methods. The move could have avoided further fines from the European Commission.
“We believe that the European Commission's decision, and their unprecedented fines, are far beyond what the law requires. As our appeal shows, the EC believes it mandates how we operate our stores, confusing them for developers and enforces bad business conditions for users,” Apple told TechCrunch in a comment.
