Apple Maps is getting an upgrade to better understand your commute and actively provide recommendations based on your traffic. Apple announced a map update coming to iOS 26 during WWDC 2025 on Monday.
The company said your iPhone will learn the routes you often have to go home, work, or pick up your kids from school. The Maps app allows your iPhone to suggest these routes so you can check your commute before you leave and know how long it will take.
Apple said the iPhone would propose alternative routes in the event of traffic or unexpected slowdowns, even if it doesn't start directions on a typical route. The company hopes that this feature will help users reach their destinations on time.
iPhone users will be able to remember which restaurants and shops the iPhone travels to. This feature is supposed to help users remember where they were and allow users to view locations they visited in the map library. The company says users can easily delete the location they visited by swiping, and the information is protected with end-to-end encryption.
The update to Apple Maps, which will be appearing in iOS 26, was one of many announcements made at WWDC 2025 on Monday. The company has also redesigned its software design, allowing app developers to access AI models on iPhone devices, and allows Openai's ChatGPT to be integrated deeper into the iPhone.
