Apple on Thursday announced a new API called the Advanced Commerce API to support more forms of in-app purchases, such as subscriptions and content add-ons. The Justice Department announced Thursday the indictment of North Korean nationals Chin Song Il and Park Jin Sung. Tata Electronics has acquired a 60% controlling stake in Pegatron, the Indian arm of Apple Assembly Partner, as the conglomation expands iPhone manufacturing capacity in the country. Taiwan-based Pegatron operates an iPhone production factory near Chennai in India's sour state of Tamil Nadu. The deal comes less than a year after Tata Electronics acquired the Indian operations of smartphone assembly company Wistron. OpenAI says it may store chats and related screenshots from customers using Operator, its AI “agent” tool, for up to 90 days even after users manually delete them. OpenAI has a similar deleted data retention policy for its AI-powered chatbot platform, ChatGPT. However, ChatGPT's retention period is only 30 days, which is 60 days less than Operator's retention period. In a well-timed announcement that was perhaps intended to draw attention away from OpenAI's Operators, Anthropic Tuesday announced a new feature for its developer API called Citations. This allows developers to “root” answers from the Claude family of AI into source documents such as emails. According to Anthropic, Citations allows AI models to provide detailed references to the “exact sentences and passages” of documents used to generate responses.
