OpenAI envisions teachers using AI-powered tools to create lesson plans and interactive tutorials for students. But some educators are wary of the technology and its potential for failure. Today, OpenAI released a free online course designed to help K-12 teachers learn how to bring ChatGPT, the company's AI chatbot platform, into the classroom. Created in collaboration with Common Sense Media, a nonprofit organization with which OpenAI has an active partnership, the one-hour, nine-module program covers the fundamentals of AI and its educational applications. OpenAI says the course has already been implemented in “dozens” of schools, including the Agua Fria School…

Apple on Tuesday released a security update “recommended for all users” after fixing two security bugs used in active cyberattacks targeting Mac users. In a security advisory on its website, Apple said it was aware of two vulnerabilities that “may have been actively exploited on Intel-based Mac systems.” These bugs are considered “zero-day” vulnerabilities because they were unknown to Apple at the time they were exploited. To fix the bug, Apple released a software update for macOS and a fix for iPhones and iPads, including users running older iOS 17 software. It is not yet known who is behind the…
A quick note before you start your day. Think twice before uploading your personal medical data to an AI chatbot. People frequently rely on generative AI chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini to ask questions about medical concerns and better understand their health conditions. For example, some people rely on questionable apps that use AI to determine if a person's genitals are free of disease. And most recently, since October, users of social media site Health data is a special category with federal protections, and in most cases, only you can choose to avoid it. But just because you…

Italian energy giant Enel is betting on small modular nuclear reactors through a partnership with another Italian energy company Ansaldo and defense contractor Leonardo. The new company is expected to be announced in the coming days. Enel already has a deal with small modular reactor startup Nucleo, which is developing so-called fourth-generation reactor technology. Enel Ansaldo Leonardo's new initiative and the deep pockets of its backers could put further pressure on other small modular reactor (SMR) startups struggling to build power plants. Enel's global revenues alone account for about 4% of Italy's GDP. Over the past decade, a number of…

Google releases the first developer preview of Android 16 to accelerate the rollout of features to devices. This is a major change in the Android rollout schedule, as in past years, Google has released the first Android developer betas around Q2, with stable releases coming out from July onwards. Under the new schedule, the stable version of Android 16 will be released in Q2 2025. Google probably wants this move to reduce the fragmentation of different devices running different Android versions. In competition with iOS, this structure could also allow device manufacturers to quickly deliver Android's core functionality to more…
