Social network Blue Sky said on Monday that its platform now has more than 10 million users, driven mainly by the network's rapid growth in the weeks after Elon Musk-owned X was shut down in Brazil.
“If you're reading this, you're one of Bluesky's first 10 million users!,” the company said in a post. There's also a fun Easter egg on Bluesky's homepage: when you click on the celebratory emoji, your participation number will appear on the platform, ready to be shared with friends.

Last month, the Supreme Court banned X in Brazil and imposed fines on users who use a VPN to access the service. Since then, other social networks such as Meta's Threads and Bluesky have skyrocketed in popularity. They are now in the top 10 in the ratings of the social media category on both the Brazilian App Store and Play Store.
Blue Sky rapidly gained 3 million users within days of X being banned in Brazil, and by earlier this month had surpassed 9 million total users, with the company claiming that more than 85% of its new users were from Brazil.
Last week, Bluesky also announced that it was seeing record activity on the platform after an influx of new users. Due to the large number of users signing up, the platform also experienced several server outages, causing users to see “insufficient resources” errors. Following these issues, the social network has stabilized.
Additionally, Bluesky last week finally added the ability for users to post videos on the app, and also introduced self-policing tools like controlling who can quote your posts, hiding replies, and setting timed muting words.
After being in invite-only mode for nearly a year, Bluesky opened its platform to all users in February, while Meta-owned Bluesky rival Threads has grown to over 200 million users.
