Brave announced Thursday that it is introducing an AI chat mode for asking follow-up questions based on the initial query in Brave Search. Earlier this year, the company launched an “Answer with AI” overview that appears above search results when you submit a query to provide easy-to-read answers to questions. The AI answer summary will now include a chat bar where you can ask follow-up questions about your initial query.
This new feature gives users access to experiences not available on Google, the world's largest search engine. Google offers an “AI Overview” similar to Brave's “Answer with AI” summary, but requires users to complete an entirely new search, so it's a way to ask additional questions based on the initial query. is not provided. When you go to Brave Search and type in “Christoper Nolan movies,” you'll see an AI-generated summary that shows you an overview of Christoper Nolan and a list of his notable films. Starting today, you'll see a chat bar below your AI-generated summary that says “Ask a follow-up question.”

You can then enter additional questions, such as “Which actor has appeared in his movies the most?” The AI chatbot provides a list of actors who frequently appear in director Nolan's films.
When you ask a follow-up question, you enter a chat experience that provides sources along the way for each new question and highlights where the chatbot is getting information.
According to Brave, this new experience, leveraging a combination of open and internal LLMs, means users no longer have to choose between chat-first and search-first tools. For example, search engines are great for retrieving images, links, and information, while AI chatbots are great for exploring topics through relevant questions based on context. Brave now offers these two tools combined with the latest features.
Brave notes that Brave Search doesn't save your queries or profiles, so your conversations with Answer with AI remain secure and private.
The company revealed that Brave Search processes more than 36 million queries per day and its Answer with AI tool generates more than 11 million answers every day.
