Managing your social presence can be difficult these days. It's even harder for those experimenting with the new wave of Twitter-like services, such as Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky. Because staying active requires a lot of duplicate posting on different networks. Thankfully, developers are starting to address our need for cross-posting tools. In addition to scheduling services like Fedica and Postpone, there's a new app, Nootti, that lets you post to Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky from one interface.
While we're still waiting for the release of a multi-service social networking and news tracker like Tapestry, Nootti's iOS app lets you share posts with your followers on three of the more popular Twitter/X platforms. It will save you at least some effort. Alternative proposal. Additionally, Apple's native “Share via…” option lets you cross-post the same message to other apps of your choice, such as threads on X or Meta. (Threads' API isn't open yet, and X's API is too expensive for indie developers, so it's a sensible workaround.)
Nootti's name, which means “note” in Finnish, is pretty barebones. Like Mastodon, it doesn't offer all the bells and whistles that come with posting directly to the platform itself, such as voting and the ability to add alt text to images or get hashtag suggestions. However, for simple text (or text and media) posts, you can use Nootti. Type in the text input box and Nootti will count the number of characters left. You can also upload media from your camera roll if you'd like and tap the envelope icon to send your post mid-way.
To use Nootti, you must first configure your account in Settings. (Note that you can use Bluesky's app password in place of your main password, even if that option isn't detailed in the app.)
The beauty of Nootti is that you can easily customize each post for different platforms. To do this, first enter your post in the “Main” tab, then switch to the tabs of other social networks. Posts are automatically populated in each tab, but you can edit messages for individual networks. For example, Mastodon allows you to add hashtags to your posts while Bluesky makes your posts more playful. By pressing the envelope icon, a set of customized messages will be published to all three networks at once.
Developer Petri Kajandar said he developed Nootti for himself.
“The social media landscape is being defragmented, and waiting around won't change the status quo. We need to be proactive to be part of the change,” he says. “Many people stop posting altogether or only post in one place. This means they need to extend their presence to multiple locations, but it takes too much time. No one network is a clear winner, so the best strategy is to post in multiple locations but keep the engagement local to that network and customize each post for each platform,” says Kajander. added.
He explains that he wanted an app that required him to write posts himself, as he doesn't believe in automatic posting either.
Nootti is available for free download from the App Store, but Kajander is currently developing a paid version, but he says he hasn't decided what revenue model he'll use yet.
Kajander said they haven't decided whether they will support other networks like Threads or whether they will need it once they become federated apps that use the ActivityPub protocol. In the meantime, he can instead use the share button within Nootti to cross-post to other apps.
