According to OpenAI's status page, OpenAI says it is experiencing a major outage with ChatGPT, Sora, and its developer APIs. The company says it has identified a path to recovery and is working on a fix as of 4:55pm PT Wednesday evening, but the service was still down as of press time.
The service has now been down for more than two hours, but the cause of the outage is unknown.

The ChatGPT outage occurred on the same day that OpenAI began integrating with Apple in iOS 18.2, which may have caused an influx of traffic to the company's servers.
Earlier this week, OpenAI also made Sora publicly available. CEO Sam Altman said the startup didn't anticipate the amount of interest it would receive, so it had to limit the number of users who could sign up. However, many users who signed up received a message that OpenAI's servers were at capacity and were unable to create videos from day one.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we would like to update you on the latest information.

OpenAI said it was investigating the issue as of 3:17 p.m. PT.
The outage also follows a global service interruption to Meta products that occurred early Wednesday. It is unclear whether these outages are related.
