ChatGpt's mobile app is collecting revenue.
App Intelligence Provider Appfigures has shown that since its launch in May 2023, ChatGPT apps for iOS and Android devices have reached $2 billion in global consumer spending. That figure will roughly 30 times the lifetime spend of ChatGpt rivals on Mobile, including Claude, Copilot and Grok, the analysis shows.
So far, ChatGpt's mobile app has made $1.35 billion, up 673% from $174 million (per data) in the same period in 2024 (January-July). On average, the app generates nearly $193 million from $25 million last year.
That's significantly higher, or about 53 times higher than ChatGpt's next closest competitor, Grok, and it's making around $25.6 million this year. Grok's average monthly consumer spending is estimated at $3.6 million, or 1.9% of ChatGpt.
The data suggests that even if other consumer chatbots do not provide a full photo of the overall revenue of AI companies, other consumer chatbots still have a way to keep up with ChatGpt's advantage on mobile devices. Consumers, teams, and businesses can also subscribe to AI plans online, and businesses generate revenue in other ways through APIs.
Rather, this new data provides a window into app traction with consumers who discover and pay for these AI assistants through the mobile app store.
It is also worth noting that when Xai's Grok was launched in November 2023 (after ChatGpt), Grok initially did not have a standalone iOS or Android app. Instead, users interacted with the AI chatbot via the X platform. Grok will only be available on mobile devices through its own iOS app as of early January 2025, and has been participating in Google Play since March 4th.

Still, ChatGpt's Lifetime Global Sobsing Nownople costs $2.91 compared to Claude's $2.55, Grok's $0.75 and Copilot's $0.28.
In the US, ChatGpt spending per download has been an additional $10 so far, with the market accounting for 38% of previous app revenues. Germany is the second largest market, accounting for 5.3% of ChatGpt's total lifetime spending.
ChatGpt leads can also be seen from a download perspective. So far, the app has been installed estimated 690 million times worldwide, compared to Grok's 39.5 million people. (This will make X's owner Elon Musk better contextualize recent complaints about App Store's ChatGpt favors on its top charts.)
The average monthly download for ChatGPT is currently around 45 million, up 180% from around 16 million in January to July 2024.
So far, in 2025, the ChatGPT app has been downloaded 318 million times, more than 2.8 times the 113 million times we saw in the same period last year. However, in terms of number of installations, India is the best market, accounting for 13.7% of lifetime downloads.
