Chroma, a startup developing a new type of audiovisual entertainment for mobile devices, has been sold.
Funded by Twitter and Medium co-founder Biz Stone and Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp, the company heads to London-based audio technology company Bronze, an AI music startup. It turns out.
Founded by record producer Lex Dromgoole and composer Gwilym Gold, who are optimistic about AI in music, Bronze aims to help artists package their music into “generative, interactive, or personalized experiences.” I'm creating a tool to use it. Bronze tested the engine with Beatport, XL Recordings, A24 Film, musicians Disclosure, Arca, Jai Paul, and Oscar-winning sound designer Nicolas Becker.
Bronze said that prior to the acquisition, it worked with Chroma on an app called “Lux Aeterna.” The app was a virtual world offering an audiovisual experience designed to explore Venezuelan producer, DJ, singer, and songwriter Arca's music in a “meditative digital space.” ” The music responds to changes in player movement, position, and activity. This means users can fly around the virtual world and interact with sound as part of their journey.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but all Chroma shares will be converted into bronze shares. Chroma co-founder Andreas Pihlström will join Bronze's advisory board, but the acquisition was more focused on intellectual property than talent.
In that regard, Bronze says an API will be created for the engine built for Lux Aeterna, allowing similar functionality to be plugged into any game building platform. The acquisition will also help expand the visual capabilities of Brzone's engine, which the company hopes will give it even more traction in the interactive entertainment space in the future.
“As we move into an era of generative visual and auditory environments, the acquisition of Chroma allows Bronze to empower artists, musicians, and all creative minds with a new generation of dynamically responsive creative tools. and be able to express themselves,” Sharp shared. statement.
Chroma raised $7.19 million in two seed rounds, which closed in May 2022, according to Pitchbook. Investors include 14W, Adjacent, Hidden Ventures, Singular and Spoti Angels, as well as Biz Stone and Pinterest co-founders Evan Sharp and Ben Silbermann. Sharp also invested in Bronze in August 2024.
