Anthropic's AI-powered chatbot, Claude, now has a desktop app.
Anthropic is releasing the Claude app for Mac and Windows today in public beta. This, as Anthropic's blog post says, “brings the power of Claude directly into your preferred work environment.” To be clear, these features do not include Anthropic's recently announced computer usage features. This feature allows an upgraded version of the company's latest flagship model, the Claude 3.5 Sonnet, to perform tasks on your PC.
The desktop app is available to both free Claude users and those subscribed to Anthropic's premium plan.

Anthropic also released a dictation tool for Claude. However, this feature is currently not available in the new desktop app. On iOS, Android, and iPadOS, users can record and upload messages of up to 10 minutes, and have Claude transcribe and respond. To be clear, this is not conversation mode. Dictation is similar to sending voice messages.

The new feature comes as Anthropic is reportedly raising billions of dollars at a valuation of more than $40 billion. Needless to say, Claude has a vested interest in competing with rivals like OpenAI's ChatGPT.
