After competing with music streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple music with TikTok Music, code found within the TikTok app suggests that ByteDance may be considering creating an Instagram competitor named TikTok Photos. Suggested.
As The SpAndroid Blog discovered, TikTok's APK file (the installable file format for Android) includes a reference and icon to a new app named TikTok Photos. According to the description of APK version 33.8.4, the app can cater to “like-minded people who enjoy posting photos.”
However, TechCrunch found a slightly different language in the new 33.8.5 version.
“Whether you're a world traveler, a food blogger, or just love sharing what's going on in your life, TikTok Photos helps creators like you connect with other like-minded people. A brand new photo sharing platform dedicated to helping you reach people.” Read.
“TikTok Photos is an all-new photo sharing platform that makes posting photos fun and easier to discover.”
This APK shows the typical icon of the potential TikTok Photos service in the old TikTok colors.
The ByteDance-owned platform plans to take on the likes of YouTube with half-hour videos and is competing on a number of fronts. Last July, the platform added text posting to rival platforms like X and Threads. The update already allows users to add photo posts to the network, but the company may be working on another platform to make photos more prominent.
TikTok did not immediately comment on the matter.
