Cross-posting social app Openvibe now supports Threads

The decline of X (formerly Twitter) under Elon Musk has led to increased engagement with alternative social networks such as Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon, but it also poses challenges for early adopters who have too many places to post. Naturally, some entrepreneurs are working to solve this problem with apps that allow you to cross-post to multiple platforms at once. One of these apps, Openvibe, has become even more useful with its recent support for Instagram's X competitor, Meta's Threads.

Released earlier this summer, Openvibe initially lets you connect with friends and followers across Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky by allowing you to view posts on a combined timeline and post to different networks at the same time. We have made it possible for you to maintain a connection with.

Just as the app Trillian in the early 2000s brought instant messaging networks like AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! place. According to Matej Svancer, CEO of Openvibe, the company's mission today is to integrate the following: ActivityPub (Mastodon, Threads), AT Protocol (Blue Sky), Nostra.

There are existing bridges in place between these networks, but additional servers, mirror accounts, and user opt-ins may be required, Svansar explained. He believed that this was not the best path forward and that a simple cross-posting app was a better solution to lower the barrier to entry for new users.

“We believe that open social spaces can compete with traditional social media, but only if they are united,” the founders previously told TechCrunch.

With the addition of Threads support rolling out to Openvibe on iOS and Android this week, users can now log in with their accounts and cross-post and reply between Threads, Mastodon, Bluesky, and Nostr. You can also follow users in a unified feed across all networks and see recommended followers from each network, Svansar says.

He said that while the Threads API is still “quite limited,” Openvibe strives to make the most of the features it offers to create a user-friendly experience, and the app is still free to use and free of ads. It says it is not displayed. The founders say more features will be added over time as the Threads API itself evolves and improves.

Since launching support for Threads, some users have reported issues getting the app to work, and Openvibe has directed users to troubleshooting documentation for any assistance they may need. This guide suggests that OAuth may not work properly and requires a specific set of steps to fix it. (However, during testing, I was able to add threads without any problems.)

The new release, which includes support for threads, also includes several bug fixes and an updated post-synthesis flow that provides a “smoother and more reliable experience,” Openvibe claims .

The app is free to download on iOS and Android, but we plan to experiment with a desktop version later. In order to generate revenue, the app plans to introduce a subscription plan later, but that has not materialized yet.

Openvibe is not the only cross-posting app addressing the problem of alternative Twitter. In addition to more specialized solutions for social media marketers, Croissant is another consumer app that supports cross-posting to Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon. However, it has already introduced subscription plans starting at $2.99 per month.
