Deezer is the latest music streaming app to introduce an AI playlist feature. The company announced on Monday that some paid users will be able to use the “AI Playlist” feature to create custom playlists with text prompts.
The release of the new feature comes months after Spotify and Amazon Music began testing personalized AI playlist generators with their users, while YouTube is also said to be testing a prompt-based AI radio feature.
Deezer said 5% of its paying subscribers will have access to the beta feature, which will allow users to create new playlists from prompts describing mood, genre, era, activity and other factors.
For example, you can ask Deezer to create a playlist of early 2000s pop rock for your workout, or generate a feel-good 2010s playlist for your next study session.
“We're excited to bring this AI-powered feature to Deezer users around the world,” said Alexandra Leloup, vice president of product at Deezer, in a press release. “Whether you want the perfect soundtrack for a workout, a romantic evening, or a trip down memory lane, our AI-powered playlists give you endless possibilities to curate new music experiences in just seconds and make discovering new music effortless.”
Deezer says it uses AI to improve the app's recommendations for listeners and the overall user experience. Its signature feature, Flow, uses AI to help users create mixes based on mood and genre. Deezer's Shazam-like Song Catcher feature also uses AI to help users find song titles.
Deezer hasn't yet said when the AI beta-powered playlists will be rolled out more widely.
